I went into Unplug with the hope of getting some tips on meditating and maybe find a way that works better for me And I got that sort of But it was only after sifting through a lot of name dropping and meaningless tangents There must be a page limit or word limit for self help books as many of them this book included are frustratingly epetitive wordy and condescending I m told they are written for the casual eader but does the casual eader Au bagne really want to be talked down to and have their time wastedSchwartz presents mediation in a way that is accessible But her message is a bit of a mess She claims there is nothing new agey or woowoo about it but later in the book talks seriously about chakras In one paragraph she says that crystals aren t magic but that they admit energies that just can t be proved It s obvious that she gets somethingeligious or at least spiritual out of meditation The contradictory wording is typical of the Indistractable religiousspiritual person appealing to secularskeptical mindedeaders But for all the silliness and uestionable claims there are some pretty helpful tips hidden in there Reading Unplug has given me a few ideas as to how I might improve me meditations My main focus is practicing being in the present moment and not caught up on my minds turmoil And the basic meditation techniues do seem to help with that I m sure there are better books out there and I m going to keep looking for them Unplug isn t a total waste of time but it s just a bit too much of a mess to be worth ecommending Those who do buy into the magic will likely want something a bit focused on the spiritual side While secular eaders like myself are going to be put off by the chakras an. T wait to start and give it a try It seems like a win win Love the whole idea of unplugging from distraction and experience the PRESENT moment I know it will take practice and I need to emember to have patience with the process Seems once your soul gets awakened you will want to keep it going Suze Yalof Schwartz says you have the power to take yourself on an inner vacation at ANYTIME to find your passion your purpose and your peace I am so excited to UNPLUG sit in silence and MEDITATE Now I want to share with everyone I picked up this book because it was supposed to be a no nonsense straightforward guide to meditation for the busy person The first 13 of the book begins by explaining to you why you should be meditating and trying to convince you of the benefits of meditation I found this to be a waste of time because thinking ealistically if I purchased the book in the first place I already believe at least on some level of the benefits of meditation and that I should be doing it She even wrote instructions to skip uite a few pages if you didn t need convincing The middle 13 is fairly good information that I found somewhat helpful But then the last 13 of the book she starts explaining the mystical side of meditation talking about chakras and crystals that can promote healing and other nonsense that has helped make people see meditation as this pseudo science thing that only hippies and those that believe in palm eadings ghosts eiki and such would do All in all I thought that 23 of the book was crap that wasn t elevant and the 13 of the book that wasn t total crap was okay at best If I could ate just the middle third of the book I would give it 3 or 4 stars out of five. Hwartz debunks the common misperceptions about meditation including the notion that you need to sit still for long periods of time or that you need to turn off your brain She also shares the life changing benefits you will experience the proven science of how meditation literally changes your brain as well as easy techniues and tips to easily incorporate meditation into your daily life.
